Husson University Announces New Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program
Bangor, ME (PRWEB) August 20, 2013 -- Husson University announced today the creation of a new certificate of advanced graduate study in women’s health. Individuals who apply to the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) certificate program in the coming weeks will be able to begin their studies as early as this fall.
The WHNP certificate program educates family and adult nurse practitioners in the care of women across their lifespans - from adolescence to menopause and beyond - with an emphasis on reproductive and gynecologic health. Educational prerequisites include a master's degree in an appropriate healthcare-related discipline.
“This innovative certificate will provide individuals working in the health care delivery system with the skills they need to better address women’s health issues,” said Chrystal Adams, Assistant Professor/Director of the Graduate Nursing Program at Husson University. “In addition, the use of online, classroom and experiential educational delivery methods make studies convenient for busy professionals who want to learn new skills while balancing work and personal obligations.”
Program coursework builds on a student’s existing primary care knowledge. Advanced practice nurses prepared at the master’s degree level as an adult or family nurse practitioner may be eligible to earn this certificate by completing 21 credit hours and 688 internship hours within a 12-month period.
Once completed, WHNP certificate graduates will have an in-depth knowledge of women's health. They will be qualified to provide gynecological services including well-woman care, health education, contraceptive counseling and prenatal care. Graduation from this program also qualifies Masters of Science in Nursing-prepared WHNP graduates to sit for the national certifying examination. Women's health nurse practitioners practice under the rules and regulations of State Boards of Nursing.
