Energy Efficient Ply Gem Windows a Feature of Proud Green Home in Georgia’s Serenbe Community
Cary, NC (PRWEB) August 19, 2013 -- Ply Gem Windows, a leading manufacturer of window and door products, is showcasing its energy efficient, aluminum-clad Mira Premium Series windows in the Proud Green Home in Georgia’s Serenbe community. Designed for energy consumption to be net zero – meaning it will produce as much energy as the residents will use – the model home, sponsored by green building information website http://www.ProudGreenHome.com, celebrated its grand opening Friday, August 16 and Saturday, August 17.
Featuring the latest building science and highly energy efficient products and technology, the Proud Green Home was designed by architect Chris Laumer-Giddens and constructed by home builder Luis Imery. It is part of one of the only EarthCraft communities in the southeastern United States.
The Proud Green Home will be open as a model home for 18 months to inspire and educate homeowners about sustainable living and building science, before being sold for residential occupancy.
“Ply Gem Windows’ partnership in the Proud Green Home is a testament to our energy efficiency standards and commitment to sustainability,” said Chris Pickering, vice president, marketing, Ply Gem Windows. “As an ENERGY STAR partner, Ply Gem Windows have been meeting or exceeding the standards of world class energy performance for years, and we can now say that the Mira Premium Series windows meet the strict criteria of the Proud Green Home and the Serenbe community.”
The Ply Gem Windows Mira Premium Series, in casement and awning operating styles, meet 2014 ENERGY STAR® guidelines and come standard with Low-E glass and argon-gas fill for increased energy efficiency. The windows are also Home Innovation NGBS Green Certified and contribute to EarthCraft guidelines of the home.
Visitors to ProudGreenHome.com can experience a virtual, narrated tour describing the home’s details or, using VIMTrek software powered by SmartBIM, they can take a self-guided tour at their own pace.
The Proud Green Home and its entire building process have been verified by an independent third party to assure the integrity of its highly efficient, green and sustainable performance. Additionally, every aspect of the home’s energy use will be monitored and reported for a full year after homeowners move in.
Certifications for the Proud Green Home include EarthCraft House Platinum, ENERGY STAR Version 3, EPA Indoor Air Plus and EPA Water sense. The home will be measured on the HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Index and is expected to have an index near net zero.
“This home will provide an experience like no other. It is green, eco-friendly, energy and water efficient, durable, low-maintenance, healthy and comfortable. It functions as an integrated system with every component affecting the next, and everything flowing together to create the ultimate in sustainable living,” said Bob Fincher, CEO and publisher of Sustainable Community Media, which operates ProudGreenHome.com, where the home’s construction process is featured in articles, videos and photo galleries.
Serenbe, located just outside Atlanta, is a 1,000 acre community in the Chattahoochee Hills committed to eco-friendly, sustainable green living and preserving over 70 percent of the acreage.
