Tellwut Online Survey Finds That 79 Percent Feel Racial Profiling an Issue Within America
(PRWEB) August 20, 2013 -- With 79 percent of Tellwut’s decided voters agreeing in an online survey that racial profiling is an issue within America; it is no wonder that the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman, heightened the debate. Although Zimmerman claimed that he shot Martin in self-defense, many people believed that this unfortunate event was a result of racial profiling. Despite the high racial tensions within America and demands for social justice for Martin, the six women jury determined that Zimmerman was ‘Not Guilty.’ Tellwut reached out to its panel base and found that 61 percent of decided panelists felt that Zimmerman did not shoot Martin out of self-defense with a slightly smaller 54 percent feeling that Martin should have been found “Guilty.”
Whether Zimmerman was profiling Martin based on his physical appearance/race, the public will never truly know the truth about what took place. However, from assessing the overall results from the various online surveys conducted regarding the Martin vs. Zimmerman case and reviewing Tellwut member's comments, it is apparent that racial tensions within the United States are strong and need to be properly addressed in order to prevent another Zimmerman vs. Martin situation from occurring in the future. How racial profiling can be addressed is to be determined as only 49 percent approved of President Obama commenting on the issue. Possibly the issue was more what President Obama actually said as Tellwut’s online survey found that 35 percent did not agree with what he had to say, while 27 percent agreed with some and 37 percent agreed with all.
