With font collections growing to the thousands, the web introducing new requirements for fonts, and a huge surge in the number of digital assets created in the past five years alone, the need for solid management tools has never been greater.

Extensis today celebrated 20 years in business by “putting a font on it.” A long-time supporter of creative professionals and workgroups across the globe, it seemed fitting to pay homage to its headquarters in Portland, Oregon, a city which has taken an international stage for not only its tattoos, piercings and “Keeping Things Weird,” but also a rapidly growing creative class.

While “weird“ may not be the listed in the company’s values, this creative essence captures the spirit that has propelled Extensis forward for two decades. A leading provider of font management and digital asset management solutions, the company set forth in 1993 with the goal of removing the barriers that get in the way of creativity.

This mission started with focus on core Apple enthusiasts using Adobe and Quark products, many involved in the creative, print, and publishing industries. Since that time, the global creative community has widened and numbers of fonts used and assets created skyrocketed. With Extensis products activating 60 million fonts daily and the overall number of digital files in the quadrillions, Extensis works with IT departments across the globe to manage this explosion with ease.

Hundreds of world renowned brands are amongst Extensis’ repertoire of customers, including adidas, Clinique, CNN, ESPN, Gucci, Hallmark, Hearst Magazines, Louis Vuitton, MIT, MOMA, NASA, Pixar, Publicis, Starbucks, Tiffany & Co., Time Inc., Univision, Weiden+Kennedy, World Bank, and Young & Rubicam.

Extensis CEO Osamu Ikeda noted, “The Extensis team is proud as we reflect on the difference we’ve been able to make for our customers. With font collections growing to the thousands, the web introducing new requirements for fonts, and a huge surge in the number of digital assets created in the past five years alone, the need for solid management tools has never been greater. We look forward to continuing to make this process easy for companies, organizations and individuals so creativity can flourish.”

Since opening its doors in Portland, the company has expanded its worldwide footprint. Demand in Europe has resulted in the company tripling its presence in this market, with a recent uptick in demand coming from Germany. Extensis has also expanded its presence for growing needs in Australia and Latin America.
