Twenty Years in Review: A Look Back at Pivotal Milestones
1993: Extensis was founded in 1993 in Portland, Oregon, with a goal to develop software products that enhance the creativity and workflow of creative professionals. In the early years, Extensis focused on the creation of plug-ins for Adobe and Quark products.
1994: PageTools, a plug-in for Adobe PageMaker, is launched; Extensis‘ European office founded.
1995: Adobe Ventures invests in Extensis‘ growth and continues to do so through 2001; QX-Tools Pro collection of XTensions for QuarkXPress 4 & 5 launched.
1996: Extensis acquires Aldus Fetch, an asset manager that was the creative industry’s original photo cataloging software; Extensis becomes the largest plug-in developer in the world.
1997: Extensis launches Mask Pro 1.0 for Adobe Photoshop®.
1998: Extensis delivers localized products in French and German.
1999: Extensis launches online creative content provider, CreativePro.com (now owned by Publishing Secrets Inc..; Extensis acquires Suitcase from Symantec® and subsequently launches an updated version, Extensis Suitcase 8; Extensis Portfolio Server is launched— this is the first in a line of client/server products from Extensis.
2000: Extensis Suitcase Server is launched as a client/server font management solution.
2003: Extensis acquires DiamondSoft, the original maker of the Font Reserve line of font management products.
2004: Extensis announces its Professional Services and Training Group – Extensis Integration and Consulting Services (ICS).
2005: Plug-in product line is sold to OnOne Software, allowing Extensis to focus entirely on font management and digital asset management technologies.
2006: Suitcase Fusion launched, merging the Suitcase and Font Reserve technologies into a single product for desktop users.
2008: Universal Type Server is released as the next generation of Suitcase Server and Font Reserve Servers; Extensis Europe expands its presence into France and Germany.
2009: Extensis awarded patent for previewing fonts simultaneously.
2010: Extensis launches cloud-based web font service WebINK.
2011: Extensis releases free plug-in for designing with web fonts in Adobe Photoshop; Google web fonts made available.
2012: Extensis expands its presence into Australia.
2013: Extensis issued three patents in one year, adding to the company’s portfolio of more than 20 patents gained over 20 years.
