StreetLight Data CEO, Laura Schewel, Selected for MIT Technology Review’s Annual INNOVATORS UNDER 35 List
CAMBRIDGE, MA (PRWEB) August 21, 2013 -- Today MIT Technology Review reveals its list of 35 top young innovators (http://www.technologyreview.com/innovators-under-35/). For over a decade, the global media company has recognized a list of exceptionally talented technologists whose work has great potential to transform the world. For her work in the field of transportation, StreetLight Data’s Laura Schewel has been selected for the list.
Laura’s work will transform the way information about transportation and mobility behavior is used across business, government, and research. Transportation accounts for over 30% of greenhouse gas emissions, has enormous health impacts, and damages quality of life, and yet, Laura realized, we know almost nothing about transportation behavior in the US or abroad. Laura’s inventions utilize mobile data exhaust — archival and anonymous data left over from mobile phone and navigation services — to describe how groups of people move about and use their cities. This approach means that planners, transportation engineers, policy makers, advocates and business leaders can understand the transportation context for any place in any city at a very low cost. Laura founded StreetLight Data to refine and scale her inventions.
