Multi-Million Dollar NICU Opens at North Central Baptist Hospital
San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) August 21, 2013 -- To meet the increased need of the community in the Stone Oak area for additional women and children services, North Central Baptist Hospital welcome patients to its new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
The new NICU represents a sizeable investment by Baptist Health System in the San Antonio community and is a part of a $60 million, six-floor tower expansion that is being added to the hospital to accommodate and grow its women and children services and oncology services.
Opened on Monday, August 5, 2013, the new Level IIIB NICU will continue to operate at the highest level NICU in the Stone Oak area, equipped to care for babies born at any viable gestational age, including micropreemies.
The new NICU will offer 60 new beds with 24 private rooms to promote positive family and baby bonding. Eight of these private NICU rooms are the first in San Antonio to feature Jack and Jill bathrooms so parents can stay in the NICU close to their baby. Parents will also have access to a retreat living area with computer access, washer/dryer and private showers.
The installation of a new state-of-the-art NICU simulation lab is also part of the expansion. The lab replicates emergency situations for training purposes and will ensure that physicians and staff are prepared to meet any type of NICU emergency.
“As the Stone Oak area has grown, we too have grown alongside it to ensure that our patients are receiving the best care and that our physicians are practicing in modern facilities that give them access to the latest in medicine and technology,” said Graham Reeve, President and CEO of Baptist Health System. “We are proud to offer this new NICU to continue providing our unparalleled care and service to the community.”
In addition to the expanded NICU, the hospital’s tower will also house:
• A new 28-bed Oncology and Surgical Inpatient Unit for adolescent young adults with a six position outpatient chemo (infusion) room and Family Support Retreat that includes showers, nourishment, computers, washer/dryers for family member of long-stay patients
• A new 28-bed post-partum unit with a 16 position nursery
• A new Pediatric Unit
