Marlin Steel Named to Inc. 5000 List of Fastest-growing U.S. Companies for Second Consecutive Year
Baltimore, Maryland (PRWEB) August 22, 2013 -- Marlin Steel has been named by Inc. magazine to its annual 500/5000 list of the fastest growing private companies in the United States for the second consecutive year.
“We’re honored again to be ranked as one of the country’s 5,000 fastest-growing private companies among the nearly 7 million private companies in America,” said Drew Greenblatt, president of Marlin Steel. “When people think of this list, I’m sure they instinctively think of some of the high-tech and new media companies that are on it, so I am doubly proud to be representing manufacturing.”
Marlin’s 47-percent growth rate during the past three years ranked it 4,608th on Inc.’s fastest-growing list for 2013, according to the magazine. Marlin ranked 230th among private U.S. manufacturing companies. Marlin manufactures precision-engineered material handling baskets from steel wire and sheet metal for clients in industries as diverse as health care, aerospace, automotive and telecommunications.
In 2012, Marlin ranked 4,112th as a result of its 33-percent growth rate during the prior three years. In 2012, it ranked 162nd among manufacturing companies.
The Inc. 500/5000 ranks private companies by overall revenue growth over a three-year period. Public companies are not eligible for the Inc. 500/5000 list. The Inc. 5000 list for 2013 was harder to break into than ever before, according to Eric Schurenberg, Inc. editor in chief. The magazine first published the Inc. 100 in 1979, expanded it to the Inc. 500 in 1982 and to the Inc. 5000 in 2007.
Marlin will join the other honorees at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in October. The recognition is the latest in a string of accolades for the manufacturer this year. Marlin was selected this spring, also for the second year in a row, among the “Inner City 100” by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, an organization founded by a Harvard Business School professor to recognize the fastest-growing companies in American cities. Marlin was one of three U.S. companies given the Metalforming Pioneer Award by the Precision Metalforming Association and the Hitachi Foundation. And it was named the top medium-sized “Technology Implementer” by SmartCEO magazine in the 2013 VOLTAGE awards for Greater Baltimore.
Marlin Steel Wire Products was established in 1968 and has grown revenue seven years in a row. Mr. Greenblatt serves on the executive board of the National Association of Manufacturers and chairs the National Alliance for Jobs and Innovation (NAJI), which promotes protection of intellectual property, and the Regional Manufacturing Institute of Maryland.
