DIGITAL VIEW showcases the mesmerizing video art of renowned artist Anne Spalter. ‘Sky of Dubai’ will be featured for the month of September in Digital View’s Silicon Valley LED Display Showroom.
Anne Morgan Spalter is an artist and author whose career reflects her long-standing goal of integrating art and technology. Drawing inspiration from painting, mathematics and Islamic art, Spalter shoots original footage in cities around the world and uses personalized software to develop patterned compositions that explore the concept of the “modern landscape” and work to bring order to visual complexity.
Spalter’s Sky of Dubai centers around the enchanting cityscape that is Dubai. A city whose foundation is built entirely on desert and manmade islands and features a skyline that seemingly disappears into the heavens above. Spalter’s art takes the viewer high above the city as she collects a bird’s eye view while filming from the confines of a helicopter.
Later in post production, Spalter manipulates the footage by filtering it through a custom kaleidoscope effect. The ever morphing images that dance across the screen are both brilliant and captivating.
Digital View’s Display Showroom provides the perfect display setting for Spalter’s video art, helping to bring her vision to life with an eclectic array of High Definition LCD Panels that come in all shapes, sizes, and formations. The showroom features a 2x2 ultra narrow bezel video wall, along with several individual displays that vary in dimensions. Some of the newer additions to their showroom include a state of the art transparent LED Panel Box that provides viewers with a 3D-like point of view, spectacular curved display panels, and a mosaic wall formation that adds to a visual display of harmony between art and the digital world.
Anne Spalter is a multifaceted artist and author. She has a BA from Brown in Mathematics, Visual Art, and an independent major, as well as an MFA in Painting from RISD. Spalter is also a martial artist with a black belt in kenpo karate. Spalter created and taught the first fine art digital media courses at both RISD and Brown University. Her book, The Computer in the Visual Arts, has become a standard reference text.
