(PRWEB) August 21, 2013 -- Planet Earth's surface area is made up of 70% water, of which only 2.5% is fresh. Unfortunately two-thirds of this is glaciers and polar ice caps. Two billion people world wide rely on ground water as their source of potable water and roughly half of America relies on groundwater.
In a new informative article by SureAqua, water purification company, an inquiry is made into the role that is played by droughts in the water crisis.
"Everywhere you look you see water, but when you look closer you find that it's not in as much abundance as one would think when, for exampling taking a flight and looking down on an expanse of river systems," commented Robert Domanko, Director and Founder of SureAqua.
The article, 'The World Water Crisis and Droughts,' goes on to outline where communities source and draw their water from, and how an extreme weather event such as a drought effects, and jeopardizes these sources.
"The consequences of something such as a drought is diabolical. The chain reaction it has on agriculture, the natural operation of the ecosystems. It holds high consequences and if communities are not prepared, people suffer," continued Mr. Domanko.
While knowing how droughts occur and what causes them to happen is good for the understanding and informing citizens, the true solution is said to be in authorities ability to forecast, monitor, adapt and act on these weather patterns.
In a subsequent article, SureAqua will be looking into how extreme rainfall events aid the water crisis, what causes them, and what is being done to prevent the consequences.
