KANETIX Explores the Top Musical Preferences of Canadian Drivers

Canadian motorists prefer listening to everything from Classic Rock to Talk Radio according to a recent survey released by KANETIX.

Canadian drivers love listening to music behind the wheel, where 40 per cent of motorists prefer the melodies of Classic Rock over any other music genre according to a recent poll by KANETIX.

The survey was conducted across Canada and more than 1,000 Canadians were polled about their music preferences while driving. Although the majority of Canadians love listening to Classic Rock; Pop/Top 40 is a close second at 37 per cent followed by Talk Radio at 29 per cent.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the musical tastes of Canadians vary by age cohort. The majority of motorists aged 18 to 34 prefer Pop/Top 40 (55 per cent) as their number one choice followed by Alternative music (37 per cent) and Hip Hop (34 per cent).

Overall, 50 per cent of drivers aged 35 to 54 ranked Classic Rock as their top choice. However music preferences quickly change when a driver lives in Manitoba, Saskatchewan or the Maritimes. For each of the aforementioned regions, Country music reigns supreme at 45 per cent.

In Alberta, drivers prefer Classic Rock (50 per cent), followed by Pop/Top 40 at 35 per cent; and 41 per cent of Quebecers enjoy listening to others talk on Talk Radio, followed by Classic Rock at 32 per cent.

Gender also plays a huge role in the types of music a motorist will listen too. Forty-one per cent of men prefer Classic Rock as their top musical choice, where women are almost evenly split between Pop/Top 40 (39 per cent) and Classic Rock at 38 per cent.

Regardless of what a driver's listening preferences are, motorists are reminded it is more important to be mindful of what is in front of them on the roads instead of what is playing on the radio. Drivers, who stay focused behind the wheel and drive defensively, not only protect themselves, they help to make the roads safer.
