Steinger Comments on Recent “Love Boat” Deaths
(PRWEB) August 27, 2013 -- Two workers were killed and others were injured aboard the ship formerly known as the Pacific Princess, which was used in the show “The Love Boat.” Victim advocate and accident attorney Michael Steinger of Steinger, Iscoe & Greene comments on the company operating the boat.
The 42-year old ship was making its final voyage according to the Orlando Sentinel (08.12.2013). The ship had sailed for Princess Cruises for nearly 30 years, including during the run of the television show. She had been decommissioned and was crossing from Italy to Turkey where she was to be dismantled for scrap metal when the accident happened.
As stated in the Orlando Sentinel, the ship had sustained damage during the voyage. The deaths were allegedly caused by smoke from a faulty fixture. The workers inhaled the smoke unexpectedly upon entering the engine room to make repairs.
“This kind of accident is terrible and the outcome could have possibly been prevented,” said Steinger, a founder of Steinger, Iscoe & Greene law firm. “The ship was potentially not fit for the voyage.”
Steinger says that risk is an inherent part of any job at sea.
“Every employer is responsible for providing safe working conditions, regardless of the job,” Steinger said.
