Visit Santa Rosa Welcomes 34th Annual Taste of Sonoma & Wine Country Weekend; County’s Top Charitable Fundraiser Showcases Best in Food & Wine
Santa Rosa, CA (PRWEB) August 27, 2013 -- This Labor Day weekend, 200 of the finest wineries representing 15 different appellations and over 60 world-class chefs will come together for the highly anticipated Sonoma Wine Country Weekend & Taste of Sonoma. This is the county’s most popular and largest charity fundraiser raising more than $11 million to date for local farm workers and families in much need. Organizers are predicting an unusually early sell-out for this year’s showcase which runs from Friday Aug. 30 through Sunday Sept. 1st 2013; Taste of Sonoma auction at MacMurray Ranch is on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013. There are three signature events for the weekend; first at the Sonoma Starlight Supper at Francis Ford Coppola Winery, one the county’s most iconic wineries, for a special evening under the stars, complete with live music and dancing. Then the impressive Taste of Sonoma; “Sonoma Wine Country Weekend continues to bring the best of Sonoma into the spotlight,” said Honore Comfort, co-director of the Sonoma Wine Country Weekend. “Taste of Sonoma at MacMurray Ranch offers the best of Sonoma County wine and food along with an array of additional events and activities.” Hosted by Kate MacMurray daughter of the owner of the historic vineyard purchased decades ago by her father, the late actor Fred MacMurray. This is the only time members of the public are invited in to the private estate known as one of the most beautiful in all of California. Also named one of the 10 Best Wine & Food Events in the United States by Living magazine, Taste of Sonoma at MacMurray Ranch is Sonoma's can't-miss event.
The grand finale event takes place at the Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction at Chateau St. Jean. This year’s auction theme is Brazilian Sonoma Samba where the Grand Lawn will be transformed as guests enjoy Sonoma County’s finest wine and chef creations and bid on wine and lifestyle lots to raise needed dollars for Sonoma County charities.
Weekend activities also include an impressive array of intimate winemaker lunches at award-winning wineries; dine from the terrace of the Balletto Winery family home for the quintessential Sonoma Wine Country experience as chef Thomas Schmidt of John Ash personally prepares meals or at Russian River’s picturesque Benovia Winery for an enchanting afternoon of organic offerings and vibrant views. Winemakers Dinners include renowned locations like Benzinger Family Winery who are on the forefront of the green movement. They will tempt guests with their organic treasures from the earth to table. Barbecues, wine seminars and demonstrations, sommelier-led tours, food and wine pairings, the Sonoma Steel Chef Competition, as well as a few new surprises will round out the schedule and go on throughout the weekend.
