Business First of Louisville Recognizes PT Development as a “Partner in Philanthropy”
Louisville, KY (PRWEB) August 27, 2013 -- PT Development, a Louisville-based private equity company, was named a 2013 “Partner in Philanthropy” by Business First of Louisville, placing sixth in the Small Company division. PT Development was also recognized with the Innovative Partnership Award. The recognition comes in response to the company’s work in founding a physical therapy clinic in Jacmel, Haiti after the 2010 earthquake that devastated the country.
The Jacmel Rehab clinic was the brainchild of PT Development CEO and President, Larry Benz, DPT, OCS, MBA, who wanted to find a way to help the country’s citizens, many of whom suffered serious injuries in the earthquake; Working in collaboration with Community Coalition of Haiti and many other US and international NGO’s, the Jacmel clinic offers free treatment to Haitian citizens. It opened in 2010 and has helped thousands of Haitians. The clinic’s mission is to help heal and transform a community that was deeply affected by devastation, loss, and hopelessness. The care provided at the Jacmel clinic incorporates a variety of rehabilitation services including physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
“In the wake of the 2010 earthquake, I, like many others, was searching for a way to help out. After seeing all the injuries sustained and given my background, creating a mechanism for the vast number of physical and occupational therapist that desired to volunteer in a free clinic was the perfect way for us to have a direct impact in helping with recovery efforts,” states Dr. Larry Benz. “I’ve traveled to Haiti many times since the clinic opened and we encourage groups from our family of companies to volunteer whenever possible. We recognize the importance of making Haiti better. Volunteerism is highly encouraged and our employees are allowed time off to give back – whether it’s in their own community or heading overseas.”
The group’s work in Haiti only continues to grow. Through a partnership with the Neighborhood Engagement Foundation and support from the PT Development family of clinics, the company has sustained the Jacmel clinic as well as expanded PT Development’s philanthropic interest in Haiti to include Kembe Fem, a children’s home that provides housing and care for 22 Haitian children. The company hopes that their continued dedication to the country allows them to expand their presence even further.
The Business First Partners in Philanthropy award was presented to PT Development August 20th at a luncheon recognizing the honorees. Other winners included Fifth Third Bank, Humana Inc., the PNC Foundation, United Parcel Service, Inc., Messer Construction Co., and Bingham Greenbaum Doll LLP. In addition to their work with the Jacmel Rehab Clinic, PT Development employees volunteer with HelpingPTs.org, SoaringWords, Young Professionals Organization, ChooseWell, and Junior League of Louisville.
