Hilton in the International Ballroom for 4,000 fans on March 10, 1968. Six months later he played the Merriweather Post Pavilion concert was held on August 16, 1968 in Columbia, Maryland. According to Hawley, “Dail Beeghly was responsible for producing some of the most colorful and riveting 1960s psychedelic rock n roll advertising posters. He used bright colors and stylish scrip to produce informative concert posters while also making them artistically interesting. The Hendrix Hilton Hotel poster features an oval promo photo of the Hendrix Experience surrounded by Gaudy bright lettering. The poster has a swirly psychedelic feel. The Hendrix Merriweather Post Pavilion poster features melting psychedelic lettering with an artistic rendition of the Hendrix Experience instead of using a photo.”
Hawley continues, “The Hilton poster was printed on a thick construction type paper stock while the Merriweather poster was printed on thick boxing style cardboard. This was not Hendrix’s first visit to the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area. Two months after he changed rock n roll forever at the Monterey International Pop Music Festival, he played at the Ambassador Theater in Washington D.C. Hendrix played six concerts over five nights at this venue. His album “Are You Experienced?” had just been released. Admission for each show was only $1.00. Beeghly created show posters for Jim Morrison and the Doors in May 1970 at the Baltimore Civic Center and Janis Joplin at the Alexandria Roller Rink in 1968.”
Hawley will pay $3,000 cash for either the Hendrix Merriweather, Hilton Hotel or Ambassador Theater concert posters or any other original 1960s Dail W.Beeghly Doors or Joplin posters. Please call 310-346-1965 or email Andrew at vintageconcertposterbuyer.com.
