Frequent Denver Wildfires Endanger Residents, Local Agency JJ Insurance Offers Wildfire Protection and Safety Information
Denver, CO (PRWEB) August 26, 2013 -- With deadly wildfires hitting Colorado this summer, many residents have been left without homes. The Denver Post states that residents in these higher risk fire areas feel helpless, and believe that they have no choice but to simply learn to coexist with these fires. The Denver Post also points out that while wildfires are actually a crucial aspect of maintaining the health of forests, they have become even more of a threat for residents recently.
Studies have shown that the state of Colorado has the highest number of homes in high-risk fire areas of the entire country, and it has been estimated that about 2,000 buildings across the state have been completely destroyed by fires. While wildfires themselves are not preventable, local insurance agency JJ Insurance hopes to help homeowner’s be more proactive about their fire safety procedures preparations in order to better protect themselves and their homes. Often times, a huge amount of damage to homes could have been drastically reduced through increased protection. For this reason, JJ Insurance wants to share some fireproofing tips to better prepare Colorado families and businesses for wildfires:
• Install heat activated sprinklers throughout the inside of your home and around the outside perimeter of your property
• Store water in containers in basement or underground cisterns for firefighter use
• Switch wood siding on homes to non-flammable materials, such as cement siding
• Replace typical roofing with shingles that are more fire-resistant
• Create firebreaks around houses and yards that are free from plants and vegetation
It’s clear that home construction in these high risk burn areas will still continue in the future, as residents are still drawn to the mountainous and natural environment. However, JJ Insurance hopes that more building regulations will be established in the future in order to minimize the damages caused by these massive natural disasters that leave residents injured or homeless, such as requirements of building with fireproof materials.
In the meantime, residents interested in making sure their property is protected with the right home insurance are encouraged to speak with one of the licensed agents at JJ Insurance at 888-842-9430.
