River Runners Gears Down as Colorado Rafting Season Draws to a Close
Buena Vista, CO (PRWEB) August 26, 2013 -- River Runners, a Colorado rafting company with two locations on the Arkansas River, announced it will offer rafting trips in the Royal Gorge, Bighorn Sheep Canyon and Browns Canyon until September 2, 2013.
Labor Day weekend is always a busy time for Colorado rafting companies, but peak season is usually Memorial Day weekend through mid-August, according to Travis Hochard, operations manager, River Runners.
“It’s nice to end the rafting season with a bang, but it’s nothing like the business levels we see in June and July,” Hochard explained. “It’s about all we can handle with the staff we have available.”
The water levels are low, which is great for first-time rafters and families, according to Hochard.
“If you are timid about rafting, then now is a great time to try Browns Canyon or Bighorn Sheep Canyon,” Hochard explained. “Thrill seekers can still find excitement rafting the Royal Gorge with its steep, technical and channelized rapids.”
While business levels have been low the past couple of weeks, Hochard said it is a busy time for him and his support staff as they start shutting down for the winter.
“There is a lot of work involved with winterizing vehicles, cleaning and storing equipment and everything that goes into shutting down for the off-season,” Hochard said. “We get to start the process all over again in April.”
River Runners will maintain fall and winter phone hours from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, according to Hochard.
“We want to be available for those people planning ahead for next summer and we will also offer some early-bird discounts,” Hochard said.
River Runners has been offering Colorado whitewater rafting trips on the Arkansas River since 1972. Raft the Royal Gorge and Bighorn Sheep Canyon in Canon City, Colo.; or raft Browns Canyon and the Numbers in Buena Vista, Colo. Call 800-723-8987 to learn more.
