Featuring a Breakthrough Cast with Disabilities, LOVE LAND Gains Outpouring of Support
Houston, TX (PRWEB) August 26, 2013 -- Set in the backdrop of the disability rights movement, one unique feature film has been turning heads around the country. LOVE LAND challenges disability stereotypes commonly found in the media and holds a rare commitment to “inclusive casting” practices in an effort to empower people with disabilities to represent their own community on screen.
The movie follows Ivy, a young woman with an intellectual disability, who faces a crisis of identity after being placed in an institution for being “a danger to herself and others.” Set on reuniting with a boy from her small town, Ivy will stop at nothing, and hurt anyone, to escape her label and return to her normal life.
LOVE LAND is endorsed by the Disability Cinema Coalition, a diverse alliance of disability advocacy organizations from around the nation.
After months of hard work filming the movie in Texas, the Love Land Team launched a Kickstarter campaign on August 9th to raise money for finishing touches such as sound mixing, color grading, and music recording. The film has received a staggering amount of support, raising over 75% of their goal ($19,280) in the first half of their 30-day campaign.
“We are amazed at the outpouring of support we have received for this film. Much of that support has come from the Disability Community, but many folks who are not directly connected to the Community have shown interest and an excitement to learn more about this movement,” comments Producer Andrew Richey.
“Our goal is set at $25,000, because that is the minimum we need to finish, but we will continue to press on and raise funds to give a stronger voice to this wonderfully diverse group of artists,” Director Josh Tate adds. “More funds will give this film a much stronger polish and afford us the ability to invite more of the cast and crew to enjoy festivals and screenings. They've all worked so hard and this message is so important, we will put everything we can into it.”
