Bend, Oregon (PRWEB) August 28, 2013 -- Life Time - The Healthy Way of Life Company, today announced its course updates for the 2013 LeadmanTri Bend race taking place on Sept. 21. The course updates are aimed at improving the overall athlete experience and heightening course safety while still showcasing the beautiful views offered in Bend, Ore.
“In 2012 we hosted more than 400 LeadmanTri Bend racers on a challenging and epic course,” said Keith Hughes, LeadmanTri Bend race director. “As with any event produced by Life Time, safety and race experience are two of our top priorities. Last year, participants faced roundabouts and traffic congestion during the last five miles of the bike course. To eliminate this experience, we moved Transition 2 to Summit High School and we believe the course will be even more epic in 2013.”
Leadman Tri Bend also has an updated run course for 2013 that will take place almost entirely on paved trails with virtually no intersections to cross. The two-loop course is spectator-friendly and athletes will now be able to park right next to Transition 2 and catch the morning swim bus all at the same place. Athletes will end their triathlon at a new finish line in NorthWest Crossing featuring the Twin Sisters mountains as the backdrop.
Athletes finishing within the designated time limits receive the coveted LeadmanTri Belt Buckle for their efforts. This year, the Belt Buckle roll down will take place at the finish line 11 hours after the race begins.
Participants as well as families and friends can look forward to a post-race celebration at the finish in NorthWest Crossing including an all-day farmer’s market, Deschutes Brewery Beer Garden and live music.
Voted the Best New Race of 2012 by Triathlete magazine, the LeadmanTri Bend features two race lengths, the Leadman 250 and the Leadman 125, The Leadman 250 includes an epic 5K swim in Oregon's deep, cool Cultus Lake, a 223K bike course around Mount Bachelor and a two-loop 22K running course around Tetherow Golf Course with a dramatic finish in NorthWest Crossing. The Leadman 125, features a 2.5K swim, 106K bike ride, and a 16.5K run. Relay teams of two or three people can also sign up for either race distance.
