WeNeedAVacation.com, the online vacation rental company, reports that fall bookings for vacation homes experienced a 13.2% increase for the fifth year in a row. Their booking numbers are even higher than they were last fall; and over 30% better than the fall of 2008.
There are a variety of reasons why people are choosing to plan their vacations during the fall instead of the traditional summer season. Elizabeth Weedon, a representative from WeNeedAVacation.com, thinks it may have something to do with the weather and lack of crowds.
"Most of us who own homes on the Cape and Islands are very aware of what an ideal time of year fall is to be here: the crowds and traffic have finally diminished, the water is still warm, the air is cool and dry at night and often sunny and mild during the day, and the lighting and scenery can be exquisite," Weedon said, "Vacationers, too, are steadily growing to appreciate the value of spending time there then and are rewarded by considerably lower prices as well."
Beautiful weather and an absence of crowds may help influence vacationer's decisions, but there's one factor that drives the majority of fall bookings: money. June and August are the unofficial "in-season" months for the majority of vacation rental businesses, and once the off-season starts rental prices significantly drop.
Vacationers aren't the only ones who benefit from this increase, the renters themselves also benefit from the extended vacation season. Renters who were restricted to renting their property during June, July, and August now have the opportunity to generate even more revenue because of fall vacationers.
