Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) August 29, 2013 -- The Santa Fe University of Art and Design Charitable Foundation has announced its official launch. Its mission is to award scholarships to sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled at Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD) who are in financial need. Scholarships are available to students who have completed their first year of study, regardless of their major.
As a non-profit 501(c)(3), the SFUAD Charitable Foundation maintains a separate governing body from the university, comprised of community volunteers and alumni who have a desire to help students earn a college education. Founding Board members include President Michael Swain and Vice President, Carol Robertson Lopez. Santa Fe gallery owner Bill Siegal has also joined as a Board member. The SFUAD Charitable Foundation is currently seeking SFUAD alumni to join the organization as well.
“We are thrilled to know that the campus is flourishing and growing, but we have become aware that in these challenging economic times, many students experience difficulties paying for their college education,” said Swain. “We want to help these students and support a future generation of artists and leaders in their chosen fields. Having spent time at the campus, these students are quite remarkable and committed to their college education.”
Swain is a well-respected CPA working in the Santa Fe area for more than 20 years. He is a founding partner of Swain & Grieco, LLC, Certified Public Accountants, and has taught accounting and auditing at the Santa Fe Community College and College of Santa Fe (now SFUAD). He has also served on the Boards of Girls, Inc., the Santa Fe Rape Crisis Center, Native American Prep School, and is a past president of the Education Foundation of Santa Fe.
The SFUAD Charitable Foundation hopes to award its first scholarships beginning with the 2014-2015 academic year.
