To make matters even worse, The U.S. Geological Survey ( USGS ) is discontinuing operation on a large number of stream gages that monitor Aquifer water levels due to budget cuts as a result of Sequestration. Stream gages are used nationwide in the Aquifer systems to predict drought conditions. The State of Florida was one of the most affected by this as seen on the map.
