The client's environment consists today of a high concentration mixture of physical servers where less than 40% is virtualized along with several critical business applications in public cloud. The plan presented and adopted by the executive team will yield a plan and shift to a predominant private cloud with the end state goal of achieving 80%+ virtualized /hybrid model and migration away from a public cloud currently hosted by several large public cloud providers.
H&H Partners began the strategy and planning phase with the solution providers and client in April 2011 and the delivery and execution of implementation is expected to commence in 2013 and extend through 2015. The projected cost savings benefits that is expected to yield operation expenditure savings in excess of $150M over the next 3 years. The major areas of savings will be recognized through the consolidation of physical servers, physical data center space reduction via power and cooling reductions, application consolidations, and the tertiary benefits derived across the entire spectrum of the organization efficiencies gained. In addition the client will have enhanced flexibility, agility, and availability that can be utilized for the typical changes in market conditions normally seen in retail businesses of this size and market dominance.
