Joe Melaragno Announces His Candidacy for Mayor of New York City
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 28, 2013 -- Joe Melaragno, a New York businessman, today announced his independent candidacy for Mayor of New York. The election is set to be held November 5, 2013.
Melaragno is the only candidate focused on improving the quality of life for low and middle income New Yorkers while also lowering taxes.
“Affordability is the most important issue facing New Yorkers, many of whom spend half their paycheck on rent. I am dedicated to enacting solutions that will make this city a more affordable place to live for generations to come,” he said.
In his announcement, Melaragno identified three major areas of focus:
Lower housing costs - Providing affordable market rate apartments by modernizing New York’s outdated zoning code and revising requirements for residential construction.
Lower taxes - Revising the city tax system to keep more money in residents’ pockets, reducing the city income tax to 1%, and equalizing the property tax for rental buildings.
More jobs - Turning the city into an engine of job growth for residents by making it easier to start and grow a business.
Melaragno’s vision also includes improvements to public transportation to reduce commuting times and improve service reliability as well as enhancements to city parks and green space.
Melaragno’s motivation to run is rooted in his love of the city and a strong belief in the power of sound urban policies to make the city a better place for all New Yorkers, regardless of income, while preserving the culture and history of the city that makes it one-of-kind.
“New York is America’s greatest city, and we must do all we can to keep it that way,” he said. “How can the city flourish when no one can afford to raise a family here? We must create an affordable tomorrow for all residents of all incomes across the five boroughs.”
Melaragno has completed the Independent Nominating Petition process and will be on the November 5 general election ballot under his own Affordable Tomorrow Party. To obtain more information, volunteer, or contribute to the campaign, please visit http://www.melaragno4nyc.com.
