Leading UK label manufacturer Royston Labels is accredited to the PS9000:2001 standard for pharmaceutical packaging materials, and has recently been audited against the enhanced version of this standard - PS9000:2011. This accreditation ensures that Royston is best positioned to continue delivering label products that support the framework for pharmaceutical manufacturing process.

A key objective of PS 9000, which was developed by the Pharmaceutical Quality Group (PQG) for manufacturers with reference to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), is to facilitate the production of safe products to correct requirements. The standard also focuses on risk management and implementing controls for risk elimination.

As well as placing even greater emphasis on risk, the amended and updated standard addresses the controls applied to electronic origination and pre-press processes. It also highlights the importance of regulating the traceability and verification of materials throughout the process chain.

Royston Labels is well placed to ensure the enhanced standard is correctly interpreted and fully adopted, as its Quality Manager was part of the PQG’s development team responsible for rewriting it.

“The need to make sure that customer’s requirements are fully understood, and to agree a comprehensive specification prior to entering in to any contract, is a welcome enhancement of the newly updated standard,” stated Dee German, Royston Labels’ Quality Manager.

As well as maintaining accreditation to the latest PS 9000 pharmaceutical standards, Royston Labels employs 100% digital inspection of all the labels it manufactures. This ensures that its labels are extremely consistent, are carefully controlled between the proofing and printing phases and that even the smallest printed text is completely legible.
