Expert on the Ethics and Culture of Hacking to Speak at Manhattan College’s Center for Ethics Inaugural Event on Sept. 19
Riverdale, NY (PRWEB) August 28, 2013 -- Author Gabriella Coleman, Ph.D., an expert on hackers and digital activism, will discuss The Ethics of Hacking on Thursday, Sept. 19 at the inaugural event of Manhattan College’s Center for Ethics. The Center for Ethics recently relaunched at the College, and has expanded its focus to further engage the College and local community on ethical issues.
“Gabriella Coleman’s visit to campus will serve to highlight and clarify current debates on the ethics of hacking and free and open source software,” said Mitchell Aboulafia, Ph.D., co-director of the Center for Ethics and chair of the philosophy department. “As our inaugural speaker, Professor Coleman will address an important and pressing issue, and set the stage for future events and academic discussions provided by the Center for Ethics.”
Coleman is the Wolfe Chair in Scientific and Technological Literacy in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill University in Montreal. She is the author of "Coding Freedom: The Aesthetics and the Ethics of Hacking," and is currently working on a new book on anonymous and digital media.
She received a Ph.D. and an M.A. from the University of Chicago in sociocultural anthropology and a B.A. in religious studies from Columbia University.
