GearID Announces GearTag – a Wireless NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy Smart Tag for Asset Tracking
Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) August 30, 2013 -- GearID, LLC has announced that its GearTag wireless NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) asset tracking device is now available for pre-order on their website (http://geartag.com) and crowdfunding through Kickstarter.
The GearTag is an effective and affordable way to keep track of valuables such as smartphones, wallets, purses and other important gear. The small, plastic tag contains a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) radio that can be paged using a BLE equipped mobile device such as the latest iPhones and iPads. Similarly, the tag can be used to page and locate the smartphone. After pairing, alerts are triggered on both devices if the GearTag is moved out of range of the smartphone.
If a tagged item is lost, the GearTag community can assist in locating the item. If another user is in the vicinity, the tag will broadcast its identity to the user’s smartphone - which will then report the location to the GearTag servers.
Each tag also carries a unique NFC tag and QR code that can be scanned with a smartphone barcode scanner app. If someone finds and scans a tagged item, their web browser is directed to the GearTag website where they are provided with instructions on how to return the item to its owner while preserving the privacy of both parties.
The GearTag is powered by a small coin-cell battery, consumes very little power, and requires no charging. Battery life is estimated at one year and can be easily replaced by the user when necessary.
