Knoxville, Tenn. (PRWEB) August 29, 2013 -- Jewelry Television is partnering with Beads of Courage, a non-profit organization that provides the innovative Beads of Courage Program. Through the Program children coping with serious illness receive from their nurses and caregivers unique beads. Each bead translates a child’s treatment journey based on the Program bead guide, and honors the courage of children who endure many procedures and milestones along their treatment journey. During the month of September, Jewelry Television is proud to share the mission of Beads of Courage, and invites their national audience to help Beads of Courage as they continue to enhance the quality of life for children coping with serious illness.
“Through the Beads of Courage Program we help bring joy, give hope and honor courage of children and their families coping with cancer or other serious illnesses,” said Jean Baruch, RN, Executive Director, Beads of Courage, Inc. “A child’s bead collection over time provides a powerful tangible, visible symbol of their courageous journey.”
Since 2005, Beads of Courage has been working diligently to transform the treatment experience for children coping with chronic, life-threatening illness through Arts-in-Medicine programs. Today, the Beads of Courage Program is provided in more than 150 hospitals worldwide.
Research indicates that the Beads of Courage Program provides an active coping strategy that helps children move through their treatment with restored confidence, while helping them communicate with others their journey. Most children have, on average, more than 500 beads in their collection. The Program helps clinicians at the bedside feel better equipped to support the emotional needs of children.
“We are inviting our customers to support the mission of Beads of Courage by calling in or going online to donate, regardless of a purchase,” said Trisha Condra, vice president and general merchandising of gemstones at JTV. “Donations received will be used to pay for program beads that are needed to sustain the Beads of Courage Program. It is a simple way to help a good cause, and you can donate whatever amount you feel comfortable with. Every dollar donated will be used to continue to provide the Beads of Courage Program provided free-of-charge for more than 30,000 participating children.”
JTV also plans to invite Beads of Courage representatives to attend a Jewel School workshop to share their mission with attendees and accept donations. As a thank you for donating, receive $5 off a future JTV purchase of $49 or more.
