"For nearly seven years we have been serving guests visiting the Luray, VA area with our luxury cabins, most designed to serve larger groups," said Randy Howan. "When we added Hawksbill Retreat to our property base we realized that there was a need in this area for couples to have a romantic cabin getaway that is a bit more upscale so in phase one of our site construction, we completed 6 one-bedroom cabins and one three-bedroom cabin to fill that void. In phase two we have focused on what will be one of the largest available Luray, VA cabin rentals."
Hawksbill Retreat was born from the popular, historic Jordan Hollow Inn. The property’s original homestead and barn was built in 1785 and began serving overnight guests as early as 1815. It continued to operate as a vacationing destination through 2009. The 10-unit inn on the 44 acre property had a motel-like feel. When Howan Properties purchased the land and structures, they did not believe the design and décor stood up to the quality of the Howan Properties, Inc. brand. So instead of opening the rooms immediately, the vacation rentals in the primary lodging complex had to undergo a complete renovation. The inn’s interior was demolished and the new floor plan converted the structure from having 10 separate standard motel rooms into a 10 bedroom, 5 bath cabin that sleeps up to 30 guests. "This is the type of accommodation we are accustomed to renting," said Howan. "Because we have several other properties designed specifically for larger groups and reunions that are constantly booked, we know there is still demand for a larger, luxury, mountain cabin rental."
The new structure provides a king suite with fireplace and garden tub, two queen suites with fireplaces, two bedrooms with two full beds each, three additional bedrooms with a queen bed in each, one bedroom with two queen beds and one bedroom with a king bed that offers a shower with 5 body jets. All bedrooms are decorated in a style consistent with a mountain cabin getaway and flat screen TVs. There is a full kitchen with upgraded appliances, hardwood floors throughout, a game room and a dining table that seats 20. The great room has a stone fireplace and multiple flat screens with an open floor design to provide comfortable seating and adequate visiting space. There is a wrap-around, covered porch around the entire cabin with plenty of outdoor seating, mountain views in every direction and a hot tub.
