Healthy Choices for Kids will give our inner-city children a chance to learn about health and nutrition, and how it affects their lives - Darryl Coleman, Pass It On Academy
Glen Ellyn, IL (PRWEB) August 29, 2013
Beginning September 2013, Whole Soul Nutrition is launching Healthy Choices for Kids. Whole Soul Nutrition will be contributing 10% of its net profits from products purchased on its online health and nutrition store by K-12 school populations (parents, PTAs, PTOs, staff and teachers) back to their Nutrition, Health and Physical Education Programs. Whole Soul Nutrition is committed to help tackle childhood obesity and the threat it poses to the health of our nation's children and adolescents.
Among the schools that will be participating in the Healthy Choices for Kids program are Drummond Montessori School (Chicago); Mildred I. Lavizzo Elementary School (Chicago); Moos Elementary School (Chicago); Mother Teresa Catholic Academy (Chicago); Nightingale Middle School (Los Angeles); Outreach Exceptional Learning Academy (Chicago); Pass It On Academy (Chicago); St. Pauls Lutheran School (Chicago); and William T. Sherman School of Excellence (Chicago), Darryl Coleman, Head Administrator at Chicago’s Pass it on Academy, says, “This program will give our inner-city children a chance to learn about health and nutrition, and how it affects their lives. We look forward to you [Whole Soul Nutrition] visiting our school and providing us with these insights to help our cause. I see this program growing to other schools in the Chicago Public School system.”
Through its Healthy Choices for Kids program, Whole Soul Nutrition hopes to support schools across the U.S. in their efforts to combat childhood obesity and provide opportunities for students to learn about and practice healthy eating and physical activity behaviors. According to the Children’s Defense Fund, today, nearly 1 in 3 children in America is overweight or obese. Child obesity rates have tripled among school-aged children and adolescents over the past thirty years and are affecting millions of children. Nearly 32 percent of American children are overweight or obese.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, recommends "serving healthy snacks to children is important to providing good nutrition, supporting lifelong healthy eating habits, and helping to prevent costly and potentially-disabling diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.”
Whole Soul Nutrition is excited about providing children with healthy choices to help them through their school day. The owners of Whole Soul Nutrition believe our children's health should be at the forefront of everyday eating. As parents themselves, the owners know how hard it can be to juggle home, kids, careers, school, sports, etc. and still have to provide sound healthy snacks and meals for our families. In their commitment to providing natural nutrition, Whole Soul Nutrition has purposefully searched for healthy food products just for kids! Their selections are not only healthy but taste good and are the types of foods that kids love.
The owners of Whole Soul Nutrition say, "We are pleased with the number of schools that have signed up for this important program. These schools are proactive in their approach in dealing with health and nutrition for their students. Healthy Choices for Kids is a win-win situation for everyone involved. The schools that have signed up are already putting their programs in place for their communities to take advantage. We can't wait to start sending checks to all those participants that will help drive this new and innovative program."
Whole Soul Nutrition is still seeking schools to participate in its Healthy Choices for Kids program. Schools may sign up at any time throughout the school year. To participate in the Healthy Choices for Kids program, School Principals or Administrators can go to the Healthy Choices for Kids School Section of the Whole Soul Nutrition website and sign up on the form provided.
