PHS Laundryserv Pledges Support for Gas Safety Week
Cardiff (PRWEB UK) 30 August 2013 -- To coincide with the start of the heating season, the third annual Gas Safety Week will soon be launching across the UK, with nationwide advertising hoping to reach over 140 million people.
Co-ordinated by Gas Safe Register, the campaign is designed to raise awareness of the importance of well maintained gas appliances. With many Brits turning on their boilers ready for the autumn weather, Gas Safety Week will remind them not to take the safety of their appliances for granted.
Commercial laundry equipment supplier PHS Laundryserv is joining over 1,200 organisations in pledging support for the campaign, which will run from the September 16th to 22nd.
Pete Waugh, PHS Laundryserv’s National Service Manager said: “According to official figures, 43% of Britons do not check their gas appliances annually, and an astonishing 10% have gas appliances which have never been checked.
“Badly fitted gas appliances are capable of causing gas leaks, fires and potentially lethal carbon monoxide poisoning. PHS Laundryserv has pledged its support for the campaign to help protect people from these risks.
“But Gas Safety Week is not just about raising awareness to consumers--it is also essential that businesses check their gas appliances every year.”
As well as promoting annual gas checks, Gas Safety Week highlights the importance of ensuring that gas work and installation is carried out safely by qualified engineers. Research by Gas Safe Register indicates that up to 250,000 illegal gas jobs may take place each year.
“At PHS Laundryserv, we think it is unacceptable that around 7,500 illegal gas fitters are still operating across the UK.
“We install numerous items of gas powered commercial laundry equipment every year, and as a Gas Safety registered company, we guarantee that our work is carried out correctly and safely by our fully trained and Gas Safe registered engineers.”
