Resource International, Inc. Plays Significant Role in New South Runway at Port Columbus International Airport
Columbus, OH (PRWEB) August 29, 2013 -- As part of the CH2MHill project team, Resource International, Inc. (Rii) provided a significant engineering role on the new 10,113-foot-long by 150-foot-wide modernized runway complex at Port Columbus International Airport.
The airport’s relocated Runway 10R/28L officially opened on Thursday August 22, with a ceremony including Elaine Roberts, President & CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, Michael Huerta, Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration and Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman. Community members along with airport personnel gathered to watch the first planes take off and land on the new runway.
Rii, a broad-based multi-disciplined professional engineering consulting firm, worked as a member of the project design team and provided multiple engineering services including: Geotechnical Investigation and Engineering, Soil Stabilization Laboratory Testing and Engineering, Survey and Mapping, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment. Although Rii only served as part of the design team, the project in its entirety is very impressive. The new South Runway relocation included the design of a new runway, design of a new southern parallel taxiway, design of a new perimeter road, establishing navigational aids, design of airfield lighting, and the survey and geotechnical work related to the design.
The new South Runway completes the $700 million program in strategic airport improvements since 2001 for Port Columbus. The project is currently part of a three-year, $140 million capital program improvement initiative designed to bring more growth to the airport.
About Resource International, Inc.
Resource International, Inc. (Rii) is a broad-based, multi-disciplined professional engineering consulting firm specializing in construction management, information technology and planning and design of building and infrastructure projects valued in excess of $1 billion annually.
This family-run business has evolved over the years to assist public and private clients in finding optimum solutions to improve their environment and infrastructure. Our specialized equipment, technology and resources offer the best solutions.
Recently, Rii expanded their airport services by obtaining a Heavy Falling Weight Deflectometer (HFWD), a high force FWD mounted on a two-axle trailer design specifically for determining structural information of heavy duty type pavements. This equipment stimulates the effect of a moving vehicle wheel load, obtains pavement temperature and stationing, takes tests at intervals and staggers test points to obtain fair distribution of data along the pavement. For more information about this equipment, please call our Non-Destructive Engineering department at 614-823-4949.
Companywide, Rii has a vast pool of employees engaged in transportation planning, design, and construction services. Rii’s Corporate Office is located in Columbus, Ohio, with full-service branch offices in Cleveland and Cincinnati, Ohio; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Indianapolis, Indiana.
