Dr. Dettloff brings to Shady Grove Radiology subspecialty expertise in breast imaging and intervention. Most recently practicing at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, Dr. Dettloff was fellowship trained in breast imaging and intervention at George Washington University Hospital.
Dr. Dettloff’s decision to specialize in breast imaging was a personal one After completing medical school at Georgetown University Hospital and working in cancer research at the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Dettloff had a close friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer. She explains it this way: “My friend was not given the opportunity to integrate her health care treatment across a core of doctors specializing in breast cancer. Instead, she shuttled from doctor to doctor for her diagnosis and treatment. In all that shuttling, much of the personal touch was lost.”
Dr. Dettloff asserts, “Not only must a doctor be the best at what he or she does, but the doctor must work with the patient, to understand the patient and respond to the patient’s needs, while connecting with other doctors to bring the right treatment options to the patient.”
Our dedicated team of experts at the Shady Grove Breast Center will coordinate an approach that provides each patient access to 3D-tomosynthesis digital mammograms, as well as specialized services like breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and minimally invasive biopsies. One of the Breast Center’s foremost goals, in fact, is to shorten the time from diagnosis to treatment of breast cancer. So in support of that aim, a designated nurse navigator will guide each woman with an abnormal mammogram diagnosis through treatment and follow-up support.
Shady Grove Breast Center has distinguished itself by its commitment to its patients’ peace of mind, and Dr. Dettloff’s sentiments truly reflect that commitment: “I am proud of the way I practice medicine. I am proud to be part of a team that cares.”
