BioTrackTHC Applauds the Department of Justice’s Position and Guidance on Adult-use Marijuana
Denver, CO (PRWEB) August 30, 2013 -- The Department of Justice announced yesterday that it would no longer pursue legal recourse against state-legal marijuana businesses in Colorado and Washington where voters in both states elected to allow recreational use of cannabis last year.
In making the announcement, Deputy Attorney General James Cole stated that the DOJ would not interfere with either state’s voter-approved laws as long as cannabis sales do not conflict with any of the DOJ’s eight new federal enforcement priorities.
A four page memo to U.S. attorneys across the country, stated in part that “The Department's guidance in this memorandum rests on its expectation that states and local governments that have enacted laws authorizing marijuana-related conduct will implement strong and effective regulatory and enforcement systems that will address the threat those state laws could pose to public safety, public health and other law enforcement interests. A system adequate to that task must not only contain robust controls and procedures on paper; it must also be effective in practice."
BioTrackTHC, developer of the only true plant management and seed-to-sale medical marijuana software for marijuana businesses, released the following statement upon hearing of the DOJ’s announcement:
“Years ago, BioTrackTHC set out to build technology solutions custom-tailored for the cannabis industry. Our goals have always been to raise the bar for legal cannabis businesses through accurately and completely tracking cannabis through its entire lifecycle and supply chain. Technologies such as ours improve transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance.
The statement went on to say, “For years, BioTrackTHC clients have been continually praised by marijuana oversight bodies -- such as Colorado's Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division -- for the strength and effectiveness of the BioTrackTHC seed-to-sale tracking system that enables them to meet or exceed regulations.”
Patrick Vo, Co-CEO of BioTrackTHC, had this to say regarding the Justice Department’s statement: “Technology solutions have advanced to the point where it is possible to trace every gram of marijuana from seed, through the entire production cycle and supply chain, until sale, enabling marijuana operators to be more transparent, accountable, and compliant. Our technology already provides this and, in fact, is already being utilized within legitimate businesses across the United States and Canada."
Vo finished by saying, "We applaud the Justice Department's for listening to the voters in Colorado and Washington. One of our goals is to make the job of enforcing its eight main enforcement priorities easier. The DOJ said that a system must not only contain robust controls and procedures on paper, but must be in practice. We, of course, believe that BioTrackTHC fits that bill and will indeed make the DOJ's job of enforcement much easier when cannabis businesses use our suite of products."
