The top 3 components of importance are behavior, meal planning and strength training. Boulay adds; "The reasons why these are the top three are because, in order to change you must first and foremost be willing to (behavior), secondly, you must understand that the food you have eaten has caused the problem (meal planning) and third, once you successfully execute these first two you must strength train your muscles so that the calories you burn will come mostly from your fat stores."
The remaining fitness components (cardiovascular training and flexibility) are all necessary to achieving good health. But these components are less effective in the process of losing weight contrary to many beliefs people have considering the enormous amount of individuals performing aerobic exercise as their only means of controlling body weight. Too many people also believe "going out for a walk" will maintain a healthy body weight but when you compare its caloric cost versus their caloric consumption they are typically consuming much more than they are expending.
