Most teenage girls will start gynecological care when they are having abnormal symptoms such as painful or irregular periods and vaginal discharge. Some young women may want to discuss birth control options or have testing performed for sexually transmitted infections. Young women should schedule a gynecologic appointment by 18 years old and their first pap smear around 21 years old. The Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) of Women's Excellence in Midwifery take the necessary time needed during this sometimes uncertain first visit.
Tracie Achrem and Chris Borowski are Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) at Women's Excellence in Midwifery who are pleased to provide compassionate, personalized care to teens and young adults for their first or annual gynecology appointment. According to Achrem, "We understand that the first gynecological visit at any age can cause apprehension. After all, we are women too!"
Achrem and Borowski conduct their visits much differently than most traditional gynecology practices. "We really make an effort to use the visit to get to know our patients well, both on health level and personal level. We partner with our patients so that they can realize their own personal level of optimum health," commented Borowski.
