It's Not Only About Chemical Weapons: International Attorney Calls to Hold Syria Accountable for Alleged Crimes Against Humanity and Other Acts of Terrorism
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 10, 2013 -- Richard D. Heideman, Senior Counsel, Heideman Nudelman & Kalik, PC, states that since 1979, the US Department of State has listed Syria as a State Sponsor of Terror. "The regime has sponsored and provided material support for terrorist attacks across the globe, brutally targeting Europeans, Americans and Israelis." According to US Federal Court Judgments on behalf of American Victims of Syrian Terror, Syria sponsored the brutal Abu Nidal Organization and continues to provide material support for terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and others.
Expanding on statements made by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in regards to Syria, Heideman says that "Two years of attacks against the Syrian people by the al-Assad Syrian regime has reportedly created two million refugees, internally displaced nearly five million more, killed more than one hundred thousand people and been allegedly responsible for the use of chemical weapons which have caused more than one thousand deaths, including children.”
Although international efforts are underway to assure that Syria turns over her chemical weapons, Heideman says, "It's not only about chemical weapons. Assad and the Syrian Regime must be held accountable for, and prevented from continuing, the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against the Syrian people, who deserve and need protection, justice and freedom. The time for action is now." Heideman calls for convening prosecution by The International Criminal Court against the Syrian Regime. "Failing to provide the protection required for the Syrian people is itself a travesty of justice and makes a mockery of international law.”
