Deficiencies in folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, or betaine may lead to hyperhomocysteinemia.

The University of Western Australia and Royal Perth Hospital recently released a study that looked at the connection between homocysteine levels, depression and cognitive abilities in older adults. The study found that "elevated tHcy (total plasma homocysteine) was associated with weaker performance in tests of immediate and delayed memory and global cognitive performance when compared to those with normal tHcy independent of the presence of major depression or the severity of depressive symptoms." NeuroLogic from Liquid Health contains ingredients have shown great promise to maintain a person's homocysteine levels in a normal range.

According to the Natural Standard website, "deficiencies in folic acid (folate), vitamin B6, vitamin B12, or betaine may lead to hyperhomocysteinemia, a medical condition characterized by high levels of homocysteine in the blood. The concentration of homocysteine in the blood may decrease after appropriate supplementation with the deficient vitamins."

The University of Western Australia and Royal Perth Hospital study suggests "Homocysteine lowering B-vitamin supplementation may offer a potential therapeutic target to try and mitigate the often-disabling impact of cognitive deficits found in this population." The levels of Folic Acid and Vitamin B12 contained in Liquid Health's NeuroLogic may help to decrease levels of homocysteine in a person's blood, potentially slowing the onset of cognitive decline.
