(PRWEB UK) 9 September 2013 -- The article, WHO report highlights the risk to expats of road accidents, published August 13th in Expat Forum reveals that road accidents are one of the top five causes of medical repatriation for expats. It identifies the five biggest threats as drink driving, speeding, and failure to wear seat belts, motorcycle helmets and child restraints. Worryingly, the report highlights the fact that only one in seven countries has comprehensive laws against these risk factors. Some of the countries with the worst road safety records are India, Brazil and China- all popular expat destinations. The WHO report calls for more urgent legislation change in order to substantially reduce road accidents.
As part of their comprehensive overseas moving services, Interdean specialises in international car shipping. Completing successful moves abroad for more than 50 years, the team were naturally concerned by the recent report. A representative shares some tips on how expats can stay safe on the road.
“Maintaining road safety is not just essential for drivers themselves, but cyclists and pedestrians too, as well as the healthcare organisation of any given country. Before you travel, we would advise thoroughly researching the road laws of your new country to identify things like the correct side of the road to drive on, speed limits and right of way. It would also be wise to avoid driving in the dark whilst you build up confidence. On another note, it is important to stay vigilant to thieves. Criminals often target vehicles with foreign number plates so never leave valuables on display and always lock the doors.”
