The Breast Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital Receives Accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers
Mt. Kisco, New York (PRWEB) September 03, 2013 -- The Breast Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital has earned a three-year, full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers(NAPBC). Administered by the American College of Surgeons, this NAPBC certification is only given to breast centers that have voluntarily undergone, endured, and passed an elaborate evaluation of performance. During the arduous review, The Breast Institute exhibited extreme proficiency for all 27 required standards set by NAPBC, including criteria for a center of leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.
Through the acknowledgement of NAPBC accreditation, Northern Westchester Hospital further establishes The Breast Institute at NWH as a prominent center that delivers excellence in breast health and comprehensive care to women who are diagnosed, undiagnosed, or have a high risk of breast cancer.
With the NAPBC recognition, patients at The Breast Institute can expect to be treated by a team of experts who will generate and implement a multidisciplinary, integrated, and personalized plan of care. During each stage of care – from initial visits and evaluations to advanced treatments – patients will have access to information about new technologies, treatment plans and healthcare options.
"We are pleased to have achieved this goal and recognition for the second 3-year Full Accreditation. This achievement validates our comprehensive approach which includes our 'Aesthetic Oncology' surgical model and our quality-of-life goals for our patients," commented Philip Bonanno, MD, FACS, Director of The Breast Institute, a Westchester breast health practice.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 200,000 patients will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the United States in 2013, and American College of Surgeons is dedicated to providing these people with quality care through the NAPBC program. The board membership of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers is comprised of 20 national professional organizations, such as the American Cancer Society and the American Society of Breast Disease, and the accreditation aims to improve outcomes of people affected by breast diseases. The NAPBC certification steadily focuses on standard-setting, scientific validation, and patient and professional education.
