The Global Center for Women and Justice at Vanguard University Celebrates Ten Years as a Local and Global Leader in Women’s Advocacy and Social Justice
Costa Mesa, CA (PRWEB) September 03, 2013 -- Vanguard University will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Global Center for Women and Justice (GCWJ), a faith-based organization that exists to advance the global status of women through research, education, advocacy, collaboration, and hope, on September 19-21, 2013. The three-day celebration will include events designed to showcase the local and global impact on women’s advocacy and social justice issues it has made over the past ten years.
Since its inception in September of 2003, when it launched a Women’s Studies Minor, Vanguard University’s GCWJ has continued to be a leader in the women’s advocacy and social justice movement. GCWJ has partnered with local and global organizations such as the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force to fight human trafficking in Orange County, and the University of Duhok in northern Iraq to build capacity for women’s studies and advance the status of women.
“While we celebrate a decade of achievements, we must look to the future and expand our vision for the next ten years to strategically impact our culture and society,” says Sandra Morgan, director of the Global Center for Women and Justice. “We must commit to studying the issues, being a voice, and making a difference on both a local and global level. That is the only way we can develop sustainable, best practice models.”
Each year, the Global Center for Women and Justice holds an annual conference called “Ensure Justice”. This year, the conference focus will be Global Child Trafficking: Prevention and Intervention, and will feature keynote speaker Stephan Bauman, president and CEO of World Relief, and Egyptian child trafficking survivor and advocate, Shyima Hall.
“Our challenge is to mobilize our communities,” says Ernie Allen, president and CEO of the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children and keynote speaker for “Ensure Justice” in 2012. “We must become indignant about what is happening to women and children in California, in America, and around the world, and to turn our indignation into action. Collaborating with the Global Center for Women and Justice has enabled us to bring much-needed awareness and education about these issues to parents, teachers, and other members of the community so we all can make a difference.”
