"BIRTHDAY GIRL clothing is a reminder of the importance of celebrating yourself and all that you have every day", says the singer, who first made a name for herself by co-writing Kanye West's 2008 hit song, "Love Lockdown." The line will feature loungewear in bold, bright colors and with playful lettering; the brand seamlessly combines a festive energy with STARSHELL’s own life affirming beliefs.
BIRTHDAY GIRL’s mission to “CELEBRATE LIFE, SAFE A LIFE” is among the most noteworthy aspects of the line’s deeply rooted purpose. In addition to inspiring others to celebrate life to the fullest, a portion of every sale from the line’s proceeds will benefit suicide prevention, a cause the singer has championed since the death of her older sister, from whom STARSHELL adopted her name to honor her late sibling. “Since the day I discovered that my big sister had committed suicide, I became determined to help others see the value in themselves and in life,” she says. “Living and performing with my sister’s name enables me honor her every day and share our story. I hope it can shine a light for anyone going through the devastating pain my sister experienced, or uplift someone who has suffered the tragic loss that I did.”
Transitioning her own personal heartache into something that can inspire and encourage the lives of others is a driving force behind the singer’s desire to promote the BIRTHDAY GIRL clothing line - first, with a successful campaign on the Kickstarter platform and now through the launch of the online store.
The BIRTHDAY GIRL online store and the “CELEBRATE LIFE, SAFE A LIFE” mission both launch in conjunction with National Suicide Prevention month in September. During the month, BIRTHDAY GIRL will donate an additional 10% to suicide prevention and awareness for every 10% discount its customers receive. Also, as a spokesperson for the American foundation for suicide prevention (AFSP), she will be a part of the AFSP’s World Without Suicide campaign along with many other initiatives.
