Mark Fenton Teaches North Dakota Recreation & Park Association State Conference Attendees How to Build Community
Delano, Minn. (PRWEB) September 04, 2013 -- Landscape Structures Inc., a Delano, Minn.-based commercial playground equipment manufacturer, along with its North Dakota playground consultant, Dakota Fence, will exhibit at the North Dakota Recreation and Park Association (NDRPA) State Conference Sept. 10-12, in Valley City. The conference will feature Mark Fenton, national public health, planning, and transportation consultant, an adjunct associate professor at Tufts University's Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, and former host of the "America's Walking" series on PBS television, as the keynote speaker. This learning experience was made possible through the 2012-2013 State Association Speaker Scholarship program from Landscape Structures.
Fenton’s keynote address will discuss “Building Community. Health with Sticky Design.” After authoring many research publications and articles related to exercise science, physical activity promotion, and community level interventions, Fenton has become an advocate for building communities that support a healthier, more physically active population, and more sustainable and enjoyable lifestyles. The pathway there, he understands, can be very challenging. That’s why he works with organizations and communities around the country to build environments, policies, and programs that help to create places where more people walk, bicycle and take transit most of the time. And it's not just about healthier people. Done well, active community designs lead to economically, environmentally, and socially thriving cities, towns, and rural settings where people of all ages, abilities, and incomes lead long, vibrant lives.
Fenton’s 90-minute session will be presented at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to visit Dakota Fence and Landscape Structures in the exhibit hall on Wednesday, Sept. 11, to learn about the latest trends in playground design including custom and theme designs. Additionally, delegates can get information about designing fitness-focused playgrounds in a session at 3 p.m. hosted by Bryan Sykora, regional sales manager at Landscape Structures.
