West Chicago, Ill. (PRWEB) September 05, 2013 -- USAgain, the textile recycling company, is inviting schools across the country* to participate in the America Recycles Day Challenge. The Challenge is a clothing recycling drive with cash prizes of $1,000, $750, $500, $250 and $100.
Schools participating in the America Recycles Day Challenge will compete to recycle the most clothing in pounds. After signing up at http://www.usagain.com/america-recycles-day, schools will receive a green and white USAgain recycling bin for members of the community to use for recycling. All participating schools will earn money based on the amount of recyclables collected.
Items recyclable in the bin include clothing of all kinds and sizes, footwear and other household textiles, like towels and bedding.
The contest is completely free for schools and requires no work—USAgain’s qualified team will tend to the bin on a regular basis. USAgain has also created promotional materials for schools to showcase their participation and increase collections and chances of winning a cash prize. These can be found at http://www.usagain.com/ard-downloads. Schools will be able to view their total collections on the USAgain website.
The goal of the contest and USAgain as a company is to reduce the amount of textile waste. According to the U.S. EPA, over 11 million tons of textiles are trashed annually. On the individual level, the average American throws away 68 pounds of clothing per year, virtually all of which can be reused or recycled. Textile recycling helps keep valuable resources in use, reduces water and air pollution, and helps create jobs.
“America Recycles Day is a great opportunity for us to give back to schools while promoting recycling,” said Mattias Wallander, CEO of USAgain. “As a recycling company, it’s our job to illustrate the importance of saving valuable resources and reducing waste.”
This year will mark the 8th annual America Recycles Day Contest. Past winners include Alpha Montessori School in Westchester, IL and Picasso Preschool in El Granada, CA.
Schools are invited to sign up for the contest as soon as possible. To do so, visit http://www.usagain.com/america-recycles-day. To learn about USAgain’s other school fundraiser programs, visit http://www.usagain.com/schoolfundraisers.
