We are proud to announce that effective July 31,2013, the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts, has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314; phone: 703-706-3245; email: accreditation(at)apta(dot)org). Candidate for Accreditation is a pre-accreditation status of affiliation with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates that the program may matriculate students in technical/professional courses and that the program is progressing toward accreditation. Candidate for Accreditation is not an accreditation status nor does it assure eventual accreditation.
Applications are now being accepted for the first class beginning January 2014. Deadline for priority applications was September 1, 2013, however applications will continue to be accepted on a space available basis for the January 2014 start. Program prerequisites are to be completed prior to enrolling in the program and are part of the selective admissions.
The technical courses begin in January and end in November. The program is divided into four terms and include didactic and laboratory coursework in current physical therapy practice. Each term includes a clinical rotation component to allow students to refine their competencies in required skills and to bridge the path from classroom to workplace. Classes are daytime Monday-Friday.
