Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts, San Mateo Campus is offering its first Associates of Science Degree program for Physical Therapist Assistants beginning January 2014. The PTA program will educate and prepare students to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist. Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the National Physical Therapist Assistant Licensing Examination and will earn an Associates of Science degree.
We are proud to announce that effective July 31,2013, the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts, has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314; phone: 703-706-3245; email: accreditation(at)apta(dot)org). Candidate for Accreditation is a pre-accreditation status of affiliation with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates that the program may matriculate students in technical/professional courses and that the program is progressing toward accreditation. Candidate for Accreditation is not an accreditation status nor does it assure eventual accreditation.
Applications are now being accepted for the first class beginning January 2014. Deadline for priority applications was September 1, 2013, however applications will continue to be accepted on a space available basis for the January 2014 start. Program prerequisites are to be completed prior to enrolling in the program and are part of the selective admissions.
The technical courses begin in January and end in November. The program is divided into four terms and include didactic and laboratory coursework in current physical therapy practice. Each term includes a clinical rotation component to allow students to refine their competencies in required skills and to bridge the path from classroom to workplace. Classes are daytime Monday-Friday.
In addition to providing a thorough and comprehensive curriculum, Gurnick Academy also provides job placement support upon successful completion of the program.
