Solar Communications becomes first British inventor of WordPress and Magento call tracker extension

Solar Communications, a leading unified communications provider in the UK, have released a new software extension - the PPC Call Tracker Extension - for use with WordPress and Magento websites, enabling businesses to integrate online marketing and offline sales.

We conceived this extension in response to our own need to accurately monitor and track inbound calls from various online advertising campaigns.

Solar Communications have developed an extension for two of the most popular open source website platforms, WordPress and Magento. Wordpress is now responsible for hosting 19% of the entire web whilst Magento is the largest e-commerce site in the world, accounting for 26% of worldwide e-commerce business.

The new, PPC Call Tracker Extension bridges a gap between online marketing and offline sales, enabling businesses to track (offline) telephone calls generated from (online) pay per click (PPC) campaigns.

The PPC Call Tracker Extension displays a unique customer-facing number specific to the search engine (e.g. Google, Yahoo, Bing) that generated the traffic to the company’s website. This enables businesses to access relevant data from their telecoms provider, in order to analyse whether they are receiving phone calls as a result of their Google, Yahoo or Bing ad campaign. The extension is a piece of open source software, and suitable for businesses of any size. The unique number displayed is based on the business’s own pre-existing (or recently purchased) virtual telephone number, which will then re-route to their usual contact number.

Jonathan Moran, marketing manager of Solar Communications explains that this extension was developed as a solution to challenges faced within the business itself: “We conceived this extension in response to our own need to accurately monitor and track inbound calls from various online advertising campaigns. Working closely with our developers to create this software over the last few months, we now want other companies to enjoy this extension for free.”

Solar Communications are the first UK business to create this Wordpress plug-in, and are the first company in the world to create the extension for the Magento platform. The extension will serve as a prominent tool for the growing digital marketing industry, allowing businesses to monitor online advertising spend, thus creating potential to eliminate ineffective spending on digital marketing campaigns. The PPC Call Tracker Extension is available to download, free of charge, from http://www.solar.co.uk/ppc-call-tracker-extension or via the WordPress, Magento and Solar Communications websites.

About the PPC Call Tracker Extension

In order to integrate online marketing and offline sales, the PPC Call Tracker Extension for WordPress and Magento works alongside a virtual marketing number(s). The extension is provided for free, and once installed - and additional phone line(s) are set-up - the unique customer-facing number will be generated based on the online journey to your site (i.e. whether a customer found the website from Google, Bing Yahoo). These calls are then re-routed to the business’s usual main contact number.

Data will then then be available via your telecoms provider. This data can then be used to analyse various online marketing campaigns, assessing which are performing the most successfully (i.e. generating the most telephone sales).

The PPC Call Tracker Extension can be used to analyse data from any campaigns which are run in Google AdWords, Bing Ads and Yahoo Search Marketing.
