Wildlife Alliance Joins Archer Salon for One Night Only Style for Change: An Evening for the Earth

On September 19th, Wildlife Alliance and Archer Salon will join forces for one memorable evening to support our commitment to saving the rainforest and celebrate the opening of Archer Salon. The goal of “Style for Change: An Evening for the Earth” is to immerse attendees in the rainforest experience in order to raise awareness and support the need for environmental and wildlife conservation through the combination of Archer Salon style and Wildlife Alliance conscience.
“Tropical forests on the planet are fast disappearing,” says Suwanna Gauntlett, founder and CEO of Wildlife Alliance. “The Amazon, Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia have all seen the majority of their rainforests wiped out. This deforestation in the south is so massive that it is now causing chaotic droughts and flooding in the north -- throughout the United States, Europe and the Middle East. This month, 80 percent of the United States is suffering from drought conditions. Recent NASA studies show that removing moist, cool tropical forests from the surface of the earth is having a direct impact on global rainfall, causing extended droughts throughout the planet and threatening to drastically reduce our drinking water supply.”
Suwanna Gauntlett has set the trend of a new generation of direct action conservationists. She has designed and implemented bold, front-line conservation programs to save rainforests and endangered wildlife populations from the brink of extinction. Her programs have yielded significant results in the Russian Far East, India, Ecuador and Southeast Asia. Since 2002, Wildlife Alliance has been protecting nearly 2 million acres of tropical rainforest in Cambodia – beating back 34 economic land concessions, combating the causes of deforestation, implementing effective law enforcement to crackdown on wildlife poachers and trafficking networks, working with communities to provide alternative, climate-smart livelihoods, providing environmental education, and engaging actors at all levels of government.
The idea for this event was born when Gari James Cuevas and Christopher Gaither, co-owners of Archer Salon in San Francisco, were brainstorming ideas for the opening party for their new partnership at Archer. Cuevas harkened back to his time in Cambodia doing volunteer work with Wildlife Alliance and saw a connection. From there, a partnership was formed. “At Archer we see beauty and inspiration in nature so our connection with Wildlife Alliance feels natural. After all, we both strive to create and preserve beauty,” Cuevas said. “After seeing firsthand the amazing and sometimes dangerous work of Wildlife Alliance I was compelled to support and highlight their efforts. Chris and I know that our clientele are special people who care and they are accustomed to celebrating for a cause.”
On September 19th, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and greet the trailblazers who are putting environmental conservation first. The celebration will take place from 6:30pm-9:30pm at Archer Salon, 33 Grant Avenue, San Francisco, CA. Silent auction and entertainment will be provided. Napa Smith Brewery and PlumpJack Wines are both sponsoring the event.
