Tapestry of Community Offerings (http://www.toconfp.org) assists children & families in need through green & community partnerships in order to build a strong, diverse, sustainable future. Through direct grass-roots events fundraising & the operation of the TOCO Shop - a resale outlet - TOCO has created direct service programs which are designed to enrich the lives of children & family members in our surrounding community. Whether by providing basic human needs such as clothing & house wares, or through improving educational opportunities, each of the TOCO services improves the quality of life for children & family members in our neighborhoods. TOCO currently hosts six community programs. One of them is the TOCO Sponsorships in the Arts. TOCO hosts students in karate, dance, gymnastics, music, & more; providing their monthly lessons, teachers, & equipment in order that they might flourish & see an improvement in the quality of their lives. Here is an excerpt from a letter written by the parent of one of TOCO’s Sponsorship in the Arts students:
“My daughter Madison’s father passed in November 2006. Madison was 4 years old at the time and his death was unexpected. Since then Madison has displayed defiant behavior, low self esteem, problems at school (grades and behavior). Madison has always wanted to take karate, but I could not afford it. When your organization provided this opportunity she was so excited. I have noticed a difference in her attitude at home. At school, where she has an IEP for special education, she is improving in grades and behavior. Madison has shown more respect, is putting more effort into her school work, is less critical on herself and enjoys practicing. I am so thankful… I am proud to see Madison becoming the person God intended her to be. Thank you for all your help. Sincerely, Madison’s Mother.”
