Kids Matter International Partners with Groupon for "Around the Block" Campaign
Southlake, TX (PRWEB) September 06, 2013 -- Kids Matter International (KMI) and Groupon Grassroots, the philanthropic arm of Groupon (http://grassroots.groupon.com), announce the launch of a local campaign to provide low-income North Texas children new clothing and supplies.
The “Around the Block” campaign will be available on Dallas/Fort Worth’s Groupon Grassroots page beginning on Thursday, September 5th and running through Wednesday, September 11th. Utilizing Grassroots’ collective action model, Groupon followers can pledge support for the “Around the Block” initiative in increments of $5 to $15, with each $100 providing one child with bags of new clothing, shoes and a backpack with books and supplies.
Kids Matter International and partner companies will host this annual event at the KOHL’S department store at State Highway 114 and Southlake Boulevard on Tuesday, November 12. KMI works with local school systems, churches, social service groups and other nonprofit organizations to identify and contact the local families of the children. “Last year, through the generosity of our partners, we were able to clothe over 1134 children,” stated Joe King, President and CEO of Kids Matter International.
The “Around the Block” event enables families with limited resources to make sure their children get the things they really need for Christmas, including a brand new pair of shoes. The children accompanied by their parents get to pick out their own selection of clothes ensuring they get just exactly what they want. “If you have never experienced the KMI 'Around the Block' evening at KOHL’S, there is no better way to get your family into the Christmas Spirit,” commented Coye Conner, Chairman of Kids Matter International.
The majority of the funding each year for the “Around the Block” evening comes from the Boston’s Pizza Foundation. “We selected the KMI 'Around the Block' program for the fourth year because it supports the children and families right here in our community. It has proven to be a great way to engage our vendors and our employees alike to give back to the community,” said Mike Best, Chief Operating Officer of Boston’s the Gourmet Pizza in the United States.
One hundred percent of the Grassroots campaign proceeds will be used to provide new clothing to the low-income children from the North Texas communities through “Around the Block”.
