MAIA microperimeter brings new service to John Rose Eye Care Centre
Harlow, Essex (PRWEB UK) 6 September 2013 -- Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK), the leading manufacturer and distributor of gold-standard optometry and ophthalmic equipment, has recently installed a MAIA microperimeter into the clinic at Kingston-based John Rose Eye Care Centre. The purchase of this equipment will allow John Rose to offer a new service to his patients as part of their routine eye exam.
John Rose Eye Care is an independent optometric practice offering a full range of eye care. They offer contact lenses and frames like many optometrists, but also specialise in a variety of other areas including; low vision, glaucoma monitoring and dry eye treatment.
John Rose has specialised in low vision for many years and purchased the MAIA in order to assess the function of the macular and retinal area. The MAIA is designed to identify the normal, age-related decrease in sensitivity, and differentiate it from the pathological changes associated with macular degeneration and other retinal diseases. It has proven results of over 90% sensitivity and specificity in the detection of early and intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
John Rose, Owner and Optometrist, John Rose Eye Care, said, “I have been interested in microperimetry for many years so I was excited when the MAIA became available in the UK market. I chose the MAIA as it is extremely reliable and will track the progress of macular degeneration and other pathologies, which could not otherwise be identified. I now test every patient over the age of 40, as a standard part of their eye examination, to check for early signs of AMD.”
The MAIA is the ideal tool for detecting and monitoring retinal functional changes and observing the effectiveness of treatment, over time. It features a confocal line scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO), real-time eye tracker and 4-2 threshold fundus perimetry.
Brian Bussey, HS-UK Area Sales Manager said, “HS-UK has a long-standing relationship with John Rose so I was delighted to help when he approached us about purchasing the MAIA. The microperimeter has been the perfect addition to his practice and will be of great benefit to his patients. I know that John is planning to undertake further studies on poor fixation using the MAIA, so I will be interested to track his progress and findings.”
