CAER Membership Surges to 115 E-Waste Leaders Backing Responsible Electronics Recycling Act
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 10, 2013 -- Membership in the Coalition for American Electronics Recycling (CAER) has surged in recent months, reflecting growing industry support for the Responsible Electronics Recycling Act (RERA). CAER membership has more than tripled since it launched in late 2011, and now includes 115 companies and supporting organizations operating more than 220 facilities in 34 states and the District of Columbia.
“As our Coalition grows, we continue to attract broad support from small and mid-size firms as well as established leaders,” said Wendy Neu, CEO of Hugo Neu and a member of the CAER steering committee. “These companies at the forefront of our industry recognize that RERA will create opportunities by addressing government policies that are exporting jobs and investment overseas.”
RERA, which was recently reintroduced in Congress, will prohibit unregulated export of non-working electronics and e-waste that contain hazardous materials. Trade in tested, working electronics and recycled commodities would not be restricted and is expected to grow. RERA’s passage may generate up to 42,000 new jobs with an annual payroll of $1 billion, according to a recent study.
